I made the gym teacher mad...

So yesterday, I had to sub for the gym teacher during my planning period (the class is called "sports"). He left a lesson plan. It said- go to the weightroom and lift weights. So- we play a rip-roaring game of indoor soccer instead. Oh my gosh- it was brilliant. I kid you not-- I was passing, making plays, heading the ball, scoring goals. There were a bunch of hispanic students who actually play soccer-- we had a blast. So today- I said to said gym teacher, "sorry I didn't follow your lesson plan, but I had so much fun". And he lectures me about how disappointed he was in me that I didn't follow his lesson plan, and how weight lifting was important... and how he could have understood if I was a sub-- but (he said to me extremely gravely as he looked at me)he expected more from a full time teacher. Oooops.

Did you follow correct gym-teaching procedures and wear a T-shirt that says something-or-other about "buns"?

Brilliant Missy. My question is this. What percentage of the students were enganged in your "instructional activity." It sounds like a lot. Was it relevant? Of course. Were you presenting it in a passionate way? I think you demonstrated that by smoking everybody. Were you stimulating comraderie and understanding across cultural divides? Again, of course. Let weights be called, "weights," and let's play sports in "sports."

Keep up the good work. Maybe you will get put on the "no-call" list so you don't have to give up your prep period anymore.

Yeah, Ben, you tell her truth.
Missy, I think you did have a brilliant idea. Besides, his lesson plans consisted of little instruction and told you nothing of what to do exactly and how. Instead, you went with a much coveted "teachable moment" and inspired the kids int soccer awareness and greatness. Mr gym teacher is just jealous. More importantly, you showed off your stuff and felt really sweet about yourself.
